In summation, Aristophanic Old Comedy has had a lasting influence on Shakespeare’s plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream in addition to Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time, amongst other comedic texts across time. Aristophanic Comedy has altered our cultural experience of entertainment directly and indirectly through many mediums such as theater, music and animation. Across the three texts, humour devices such as mockery, humorous stereotype, parody and humorous metaphor have been used to capture the audience’s attention and communicate serious messages through social commentary. The texts concern elements of daily life experienced by those living during the time period as shown through the universal themes of peace, restoration to old values, conflict between old and new ideologies, the nature of comedy and the nature of entertainment itself. Though the players and writers are different, the nature of comedy has not changed as the same humour devices and serious messages resonate with audiences today.
